What are cookies and cookie policies
Cookies are the information a website saves to your computer, mobile phone, or other device, with the goal of servers knowing when you visit websites and when you return. They usually look like small .txt files.
A lot of times the “We use cookies” announcement is phrased in a way to make you think cookies help websites work better. This may or may not be true. For example, cookies are used to track your online activity on a website or app. This might be a cause for alarm or it might be helpful when you want websites to remember it’s you so you don’t have to log in again or you want to save your favorite settings.
While some websites will ask you if you want a chocolate chip cookie to get you to allow cookies on your computers and devices, asking for cookie permissions may not be the right time to make jokes or try to look cute.
(If someone asks me if I want a cookie, my gut reaction will always be, “Yes”. But you can’t eat digital cookies.)
In the end, you deserve to know what cookies are and how they affect you. It’s your choice if you want to accept them or not.
